Sunrise over layered Himalayan ridges

Practical information

Know before you go

How to reach the ridge, what the weather does, what to pack, and the handful of rules that make the place work.

The essentials

Six things worth knowing

Altitude

1,111 metres above sea level — always cool, and almost always above the cloud. The mountains are only 19 km away as the crow flies.

Weather

Moderate all year. Bring a warm jacket for December and January; it rarely drops below 9°C, and rarely climbs above 29°C in summer.

What to bring

A carry bag rather than a suitcase, personal medicine, two spare sets of clothes, a wind and rainproof layer, and comfortable walking boots.

What to wear

White or blue clothing is appreciated during meditation. Shoes come off at the door.

House rules

Self service — you wash your own dishes. Mobile off, though sending email is fine. No alcohol or tobacco on the property.

From Kathmandu

200 km west. Tourist bus at 7 am for about €25, or flights every hour from 8 am to 2 pm at about €111. Ask us for an e-ticket.
