About Tushita-Nepal

A school of life, on a ridge above Pokhara

Founded after 999 days of yoga and meditation, and run as a non-profit for nature conservation, education and the restoration of world peace.

Sat Guru Gorakh

Meaning: deep respect to the life energy residing inside you.

Nepal is a Himalayan land blessed by Guru Gorakshanath. It is the origin place of the Vedic Sanatan Dharma, the birthplace of Veda Vyasa who compiled the four Vedas, the source of the holy river Ganga, and the land of devas, saints and sages. It is a matter of pride for yoga lovers to practise in the country where Tantra, Yoga, Astrology, Ayurveda and Vastu Shastra began.

Tushita means heaven in the ancient Nepali language. As the name suggests, we are amidst the nature — magnificent Himalayas in front, an emerald lake below, lush forest rich in flora and fauna. It is the best place to detox, release and refresh, and it is meant for those in pursuit of happiness and peace.

We will treat you as a yogi and a traveller — not as a guest.

Your teacher

Rajesh Shrestha — Yogi Panchavedi

In tourism since 1991, and the pioneer of eco-farming in Pokhara, Tushita Organic Restaurant, a fair-trade natural products shop and Yogalaya — the yoga and meditation school. He is a freelance writer, photographer, book author and music composer, and has lectured at universities in Nepal and Japan.

He closed all seven companies to establish Tushita-Nepal for the noble cause. After a long wrestle, mother nature taught him the secret of bliss and beauty; he completed 999 days of yoga and meditation on Nagpanchami, and started a retreat amidst the nature for those in pursuit of happiness and peace.

Hands that serve are holier than the lips that pray.

Classes are taught in Nepali, English and Japanese.

Hatha yoga is the father of all the yoga forms. Ha means sun — the Pingala, male energy. Tha means moon — the Ida, female energy. Activating the inner chakras through hatha pranayama is what the word actually describes.

Why we exist

A non-profit, not a resort

Tushita-Nepal is a non-profit organisation dedicated to nature conservation in Nepal, education, and the restoration of world peace.

World Peace

In pursuit of world peace ambassadors, and the annual festival on the ridge beside the stupa.

Seed for Change

Herbal and fruit planting on the hillside, and the eco-farm that feeds the kitchen.

Education for All

Support for schooling in the villages along the Pumdi-Bhumdi ridge.

We do not change anybody’s religious belief — and we do not waste time talking about politics, opinions or religious sects.

In their words

The whole Pokhara city was under the cloud for four days but I could enjoy dramatic mountain views and sunrise above the clouds. Naked sky full of stars and milky-way was so much stunning. Definitely, I had a life-time experience.
